Mic works here but not in Teams?
If the meter above moves, your microphone is fine and Teams is the problem. These steps fix nearly every case.
1. Pick your mic in Teams
- In Teams, click the three dots (Settings and more) next to your profile picture, then Settings → Devices.
- Under Microphone, choose the same device you picked in the test above.
- Use Make a test call on that page to hear a playback of your voice.
During a meeting, click More → Settings → Device settings to switch mics without leaving.
2. Let Windows or macOS allow Teams
- Windows 11: Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone. Turn on Microphone access, Let apps access your microphone, and make sure Microsoft Teams is switched on in the list.
- macOS: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, and switch on Microsoft Teams. Quit and reopen Teams afterwards.
3. Using Teams in a browser?
Click the icon on the left of the address bar on the Teams site and set Microphone to Allow, then reload. Chrome and Edge give the best Teams support in the browser.
4. Close apps that grab the mic
Zoom, Discord, OBS, and recording software can hold the microphone. Quit them and rejoin the meeting.

Why can't people hear me in Microsoft Teams?
Teams is usually set to the wrong microphone, doesn't have microphone permission in your system settings, or another app is using the mic. If the mic test on this page works, pick the same device in Teams under Settings and Devices.
